The Position
As the Associate Nurse Unit Manager you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the delivery of evidence based mental health nursing care that meets professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for prisoners
- Providing effective oversight of the daily operations of the primary mental health clinical operations within the medical centre, and uses their clinical expertise to provide guidance, direction and supervision
- Providing mental health care services to prisoners, including effective delegation of staff to ensure timely reception screening of prisoners and case management of longer term prisoners amongst other clinical oversight duties
- Assisting the Health Services Manager (HSM) in providing leadership and effective operations of the clinical environment
- Assuming the responsibilities and authority of the Health Services Manager in their short term absence where an acting/higher duties arrangement would not be applicable
The Location
Located in the outer Western suburbs of Melbourne.
Essential Criteria
- Division 1 Registered Nurse qualification
- Post graduate Mental Health qualification or equivalent
- Minimum 12months experience working as a Registered Nurse in Australia
- Substantial clinical experience including a minimum of three years post graduate psychiatric nursing experience
- Recent nursing experience in a mental healthcare setting
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills: ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes
- Proven experience dealing with complaints and incident management and achieving successful outcomes
- Ability to clinically lead a team which works effectively within a correctional environment
- Ability to assist and support the implementation of quality and change management initiatives and clinical projects
- Intermediate to advanced PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications and other data bases as required
- Patient-centred approach to evidence based care delivery
- Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards and legal and ethical requirements
- Police check clearance
- Experience in general nursing (desirable)
- Ability to support and maintain budget management processes (desirable)
- Understanding of sound rostering practices and employment conditions/entitlements (desirable)
- Working with children’s check clearance (depending on site)
